This year, the 8th June marks the 29th anniversary of World Oceans Day!
World Oceans Day was proposed by Canada during the 1992 Earth Summit as a way to focus on the Earth's oceans that connect us all. Since then, in 2008 the UN recognised 8th June as the official World Oceans Day.
Peat Compost Ban Weclomed by Environmentalists
The UK government has issued a ban on the sale of peat compost in England to gardeners from 2024 which has been welcomes by environmentalists.
Peat is made out of "partially composted mosses and plants in waterlogged, acidic bogs" Currently, around 3% of the Earth's surface is covered by living peat bogs.
Despite the grand step in the right directions, there are still concerns about 'loopholes' in the ban that would allow the continued burning of carbon-rich peatland.

The Aquapax Racing Yacht has officially entered for this year’s around Ireland Fastnet Race! The 2021 Rolex Fastnet Race will start on Sunday 8th August 2021.
The Fastnet Offshore Race is a highly competitive race with this year having a record-sized entry of 453 yachts (as of April 2021). None of the world’s ‘classic 600 mile’ offshore races come close to this level of participation.
